31 Days of Freebies – Day 7: A Real Free Credit Report

31 Days of Freebies Day 7

I’m not afraid to admit that I think all of those “free credit report” commercials on television are just about enough on their own to make me never want to turn on the TV again.  The worst part about them though, is that people actually believe that they are going to get their free credit report and not have to pay anything at all – WRONG!

That site and the many others that offer similar situations are scams that are designed to give you your free credit report in return for enrollment into a credit monitoring program that will cost you a set amount of money every month.  Not sounding quite so free anymore, is it?

Good News, though!  You can get an honest to goodness free credit report without any strings or expectations whatsoever if you just know where to go.  And as luck would have it, you have a frugal uncle Michael who is going to share this super secret info with you.

AnnualCreditReport.com is a central website that makes it easy for people to get the free annual credit report that they are entitled to by law.  The three major agencies are all available through this site including Equifax, Trans Union and Experian.

One final note:  This is your actual credit report, not your credit score.  You will – in most cases – be required to pay a fee to find out your credit score.  Your credit report will provide you with important information about your creditors and what they are reporting about your accounts with them.  Expect a full article in a few days on how to read and understand your credit report as well as how to dispute errors that you discover.

Great info…but it’s not quite “super secret” though ;)

It’s been available for several years now and I’ve gotten ours many times (when I don’t forget), don’t forget you can do one for yourself and your spouse, every year. And yes it is legitimate and sponsored by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and by LAW you are allowed a free credit report through each agency through this website.
