February is Freedom from Convenience Foods Month

Convenience foods – those easy-to-use packets, pouches, boxes and bottles that make our lives so much easier because they make it possible for us to prepare meals despite our hectic on-the-go lifestyles.  They are also full of additives, preservatives and heaven only knows what other chemicals that I just can’t bring myself to put into my body.  Call it a personal crusade if you will, Gone Frugal has declared February Freedom from Convenience Foods Month.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to call Intervention and try to get you into a detox program for convenience food addicts.  Instead we are going to provide you with lots of recipes and tips on how you can make your own convenience food mixes and recipes at home.

A lot of people say that making something from scratch is just too time consuming to make it worthwhile.  That’s far from the truth and in February I plan to prove my point.  When you make homemade convenience food mixes from scratch you are in complete control over each and every ingredient.  Need to cut your sodium?  When you make it yourself you can do it.  Same with allergies and personal taste.

The best part of all is that most homemade convenience food mixes can be put together in minutes and for pennies.  What’s more, it is a great way to help use some of those dried herbs and spices in your pantry that don’t get pulled out often enough.

Hang on, GFFs,  February is going to rock your world!
