Make Your Own McDonald’s Special Sauce Clone

The McDonald’s Big Mac is an addiction for a lot of my friends so a few years ago I went digging around to find a way to make the special sauce since that was really the only variable ingredient in the now-famous recipe of "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onion on a sesame seed bun".

For the longest time people were trying to convince me that the sauce was merely Thousand Island dressing under a different name but my mouth told me different. Though I originally saw the recipe about 10 years ago, it seems to be generally accepted that it originated with Todd Wilbur of Top Secret Recipes.

INGREDIENTS

    1/2 cup mayo
     2 Tablespoons French dressing
    4 teaspoons sweet relish
1 Tablespoon sweet onion, minced finely
    1 teaspoon white vinegar
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1/8 teaspoon salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Simply stir all ingredients together to blend well and refrigerate covered to allow the flavors to meld.

Well, I tried it, and it came out PERFECTLY – I substituted Splenda for sugar, and added less salt, but it’s great. I am using it in “Mac Wrap” clone to save even further on calories.

Thanks!

Even better, less sugar and fat! Way to go, Steve!
